No section 13 notice has been served, a letter has come out in the post informing me of the proposed increase. If we do sign a new contract does this overide the need for a section 13 notice?
During a periodic tenancy you are not bound by any proposed rent increase unless a section 13 is served.
Thus, so far you need not pay the proposed increase.

Perhaps but either way, rent can be increased without "a new contract in force" if the tenancy is a SPT.0
