Travel republic holiday booking

A few weeks ago I booked a holiday which they had adertised for the Viva Menorca apartments in Calan Bosch, the price came up at £800 for me & my husband for 10 nights all inc.
Travel Republic have now contacted me and said that the accomodation provider hasn't accepted the booking as they havent confirmed with Travel Republic yet.
One the website the price has now jumped to £1795, they basically want us to cancel the holiday (only paid deposit) or pick another hotel.
Can they do this? i can only assume they will offer us another hotel for the same amount, but this will probably only be a 3 star, the one we booked was a 4 star.
Sounds like they have cocked up with the price, but can they force us to take another lesser hotel?

Thanks

The problem with Travel Republic is they don't sell holidays, they sell components. If they are prepared to give you your money back for the flights, take it and look elsewhere. You end up with separate contracts, none with TR itself, so if the hotel has refused the booking, there simply isn't a contract
  • i only booked with Travel Republic for the accomodation. the flights where booked with Monarch direct.
If they can't offer me the original accomodation, i want another 4star hotel, but for the £800 i originally paid. will they do that?
they should honor the 4 star rating, shouldnt they?

by giving you a full refund you are back to where you started, they do not have to give you a 4* for £800, you are free to go an book elsewhere, pricing errors can happen and there will usually be something in the Ts&Cs to protect them from having to do anything else other than give you a full refund

With Travel Republic, they just book the hotel as a 3rd Party they use a company called Hotel Beds,

They offer no support when a hotel booking goes wrong, They also will not sort out problems if you are in a resort,

Always be very careful when booking via them as if anything goes wrong they just pass the complaint to Hotel beds who are then not interested as Travel Republic made the booking so a no win situation.
