Hotel Event Contract

Hi Everyone,

i am new to these forums but use MSE regularly to get a great deals but need some advice.

i have booked a wedding reception at my local hotel over a year ago for next july and have been in contact with them for rates for the rooms on the night. originally i was told the cost would be no higher than £80 but i had nothing confirmed. yesterday i find out room prices are to £200 because of the Olympics. can this be right? i really don't think so. i have a contract and have already paid £250 deposit. i am paying for the hire food and drinks so spending a lot of money. would be great to get some consumer advice to find out where i stand. i have sent a letter saying the price is ridiculous and threatened to pull out Friday and go elsewhere. please help

  • I think unless you have the room hire price included in the contract you're snookered unfortunately. Best bet might be to negotiate eg I'll take 6 rooms for £800

If you have nothing in writing about the room price, how are you going to convince anyone, ultimately a court, that they agreed the room price would be less than £80?

How many bedrooms does your contract say you have booked? From what you say I guess none. I imagine your threat to cancel will not worry them too much, June is a good month and they will probably get more now + your deposit.

You should have held x number of rooms at time of booking.

So talk nicely to them and see what they will do for you.
