Hope somebody can help... We currently have a desktop computer with freestanding base unit, with an old CRT monitor (but going strong) with a captured lead from the monitor to the base unit (analogue, 15 pin D pin type arrangement M lead into F on base unit). We also have a laptop, which we ocassionally connect to the monitor so we can work with the laptop and 2 screens.
It is becoming difficult to keep disconnecting the leads from the base unit to keep connecting up for this temporary solution, the connection pins are becoming increasingly worn/ bent, and it is very fiddly to get to the rear of the base unit ! Is there a way we can streamline this arrangement ? with additional leads and maybe a switch box ? any ideas what might be needed ? Any thoughts gratefully recevied !

you want to get a KVM switch http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00011PC8I/ref=asc_df_B00011PC8I4582065?smid=A1AUCPBF2P18HS&!!!!!googlecouk06-21&linkCode=asn&creative=22218&creativeASIN=B00011PC8I
just the first one i found on amazon, not a recommendation as such - anyhow, that would allow you to have the monitor attached to the desktop and laptop at the same time (obvioulsy you'll need a video cable from the switch to laptop too) it would also allow you to switch the keyboard and mouse between the two, which can sometimes be useful if you don't like using the laptop keyboard/mouse at a desk... you might be able to get a switch for just the video but kvm's are fairly common so might be better priced(?)This is a system account and does not represent a real person.
