    Thank you all for your help. The article is very good, and I will try your suggestions and see what happens. I'll report back and if the computer dies then at least i've tried.

    Hi, I'm just reporting back. Unfortunately, I couldn't get the Vaio to work again, just a black screen, so I couldn't try the above suggestions, and it's not worth repairing so DS will enjoy taking it apart. My other computer was also beyond repair so i've had to splash out on another one. I'm feeling very unlucky at the moment.
