WTC overpayment

I was claiming WTC from last September to April and have just been told that I have been overpaid to the tune of over £1300 !!
I have to pay back this amount
I was receiving almost £150 per week WTC (Disabled element on 16 hours work / week)
When I was working, I informed them of a change in my income (on top of my £130 per week - I now receive £7,000 pa Ill health pension), after which, they actually increased the payments so why now have they changed their mind and are saying that I have been overpaid WTC ?
Am I right to appeal over this on grounds of a mistake by HMRC ?

Hi Twinkle. I remember discussing this with you a while back.
Did you keep tco informed of ALL changes in your income and working circumstances?
If I remember correctly your wife lost her job isnt that right?
Did you inform tco of this?
At the time you were unable to deal with your claim via telephone so you made all contact via post....I told you to keep a copy of all letters you sent and to ensure you sent them recorded delivery. Did you do this and do you still have the delivery receipt given to you by the post office? The loopy one has gone :j0 -
Thanks - yes I do still have copies of the letters and no I don't have the recorded delivery receipts
I informed WTC of every change in my circumstances - including change in income and my wife losing her job
Could you please confirm whether my tax free lump sum (£22k) should be taken into account as income for the purposes of WTC calculations ?
Because, from what I understand - an increase of up to ££10k is ignored ?
And my pension is only £7k pa0
