computer lost all programmes last night

had a major catastrophe last night youngest ds was on puter when ie suddenly shut down it came back saying it had closed unexpectedly so did he want to restore last session he clicked yes and all hell broke lose multiple error and corrupted file messages came up and its completely wiped all programmes. ive only got on this morning because i foud an ie link in the desktop file everything seems to have gone everytime i click on a file it says (empty) i ran a virus check this morning with kapersky and that didnt come up with aything i think ive managed to stop the pop ups that kept telling me what files and harddrive were corrupted and offering to "click here to buy the cure" but dont really know what to do as im really not techy.
i looked at doing a system restore but think ill need one of the kids to do that as i cant find the same thing on our puter as it descrides in the book

any suggestions or ideas please

Can you download and install Malwarebytes?
If you can, make sure it's up to date, run a full scan and post the log for one of the techies to look at.

Sounds to me as if the alert that your ds clicked on was a fake one. We had something similar, and managed to get rid of it by doing a system restore to a few days earlier. What operating system have you got (windows xp, vista, windows 7)?

    ...its completely wiped all programmes.

They are hidden & they're still there so long as you haven't used a temp file cleaner such as CCleaner.

A combination of rkill, MBAM & unhide.exe will put you right again (see post #4)
  • thank you ALL so very very much ive got my icons back. malware found 4 things that kapersky didnt and once id deleted those and done unhide my little icons started popping back up.

it really is such a relief to have it fixed without having to spend a fortune, it actually impressed the kids that your mending instructions were doable by someone as untechy as me. they though they'd have to get someone round
