I have the plumber coming next week - he agrees that it is the expansion vessel that needs recharging0

How old is this "newish" boiler? WB normally come with a 2 year guarantee, mine has a 5 year warranty as it was fitted by a Worcester approved installer.
Fitted 18 months ago, it made a strange noise a couple of months ago. I phoned Worcester just for advice and they sent an engineer within 3 hours who fitted a new gas valve all free of charge.
The boiler is 4 years old - but at the time they only came with 2 year guarantees !!0
