    it does have a fail safe device its called a presure relife valve and works at 3-4 bar

    No need to have the boiler stop working when you can suffice by letting the excess pressure out.

    I have the plumber coming next week - he agrees that it is the expansion vessel that needs recharging

    The boiler is 4 years old - but at the time they only came with 2 year guarantees !!
