Moving Goalposts - Telewest

I recommended a friend to Telewest under their offer to credit my bill with £50 for my efforts. This was back in November.
My next bill (beginning December) didn't show a credit so I rang to ask why and was told the credit could be seen as 'pending' on my account but wouldn't be credited until my friend paid their first bill. Fair enough - they obviously need to be sure it was a genuine new customer fully signed up to a year's contract.
My next bill (beginning January) didn't show the credit either - knowing my friend has paid their first bill now I rang Telewest again .. to be told that I will see the credit once my friend has paid their first THREE bills!!
Hmmmmm, was I given incorrect information the first time or are Telewest hoping I would forget all about the expected credit. The reason I was given the second time of ringing, was that Telewest need to be sure that my friend is genuinely entering into a contract with Telewest and not just joining for one month to enable me to get £50. Surely if my friend has signed a contract and paid one bill that should be sufficient??
Grrrrrrr
