British Gas Homecare advise please

I took out homecare flexi 100 in 2008,

Having problems with my boiler, I found out they are meant to do an initial inspection and a yearly service, they havent done any, no paperwork at all. The contract was done over the phone and paid by direct debit.

I recently rang them to come and repair the boiler, made appointment took a day off, they failed to come, no contact was made.

It turns out they had somebody elses address on the details from day 1, although they had my correct details for my gas and electricity.

I feel totally let down by them. What are my options?

After a few phone calls they have offered £90 back for the 3 years no servicing (£30 a year) and to come and look at the boiler. I believe the boiler is obsolete now and past repair its 17yrs old Ravenheat multipoint

They have also made another separate offer of 3 years payments back and cancel all of it.

I believe they broken their contract, failed to do the initial inspection, failed to do the yearly service (dangerous) 3 times, failed to keep a repair appointment, and should possibly replace the boiler FOC, what chance have I got?

Comments

  • What more are you looking for if they have offered to refund all of your money?

Why would they replace your boiler free of charge :D
    :money:
  • I was wondering about my wasted holiday, breach of contract, the lack of servicing, if my car hadnt been serviced for 3 years Iam guessing there would be problems. Am better just taking the offer of my money back?
  • Did you call them after the 1/2/3 years missed annual service?

Did you think it was a bit strange that you had no letters advising you of renewal?

This country has a blame the other person culture - Yes British Gas should have come out and serviced the boiler, but its only now that your saying how dangerous it is etc - You didn't ring them for the previous 2 years and say "Why has my boiler not been serviced?"

If they are offering you back all of your money then take it. As for parts they can probably still get parts for your boiler.

So you were aware they did not inspect your boiler for 3 years and have only now complained they have offered all your money back yet you would like them to replace your boiler foc.

God forbid that anything seriously happened, but if it did in the last 3 years who would you have blamed yourself for not ensuring/insisting that the maintaince was carried out yearly or BG for not coming out.

As a previous poster has we appear to be in a blame someone else culture.....and its wrong.

We also have British Gas Homecare and its a great service as they have never let me down and tbh bent over backwards to resolve anything.

take the money and run..... cos some boiler breakdown contracts state if you dont have the service done, subsequent repairs wont be covered....... so count you lucky stars and grab the money.
Promo codes are never always cheaper..... isnt that right EuropCar?
  • Not reminding them was an oversight on my naive behalf, I guess I`d better grab the cash and run, cheers people for your advice

My understanding is that you now book the annual service online. I dont know if this means they write to you first or if you are expected to remember. Not sure how long they have operated like this.

Much as I dislike BG as a company, you are unreasonable. Yes, they were at fault, but so were you for not taking action two years ago. They offered to give you your money back, what more do you want?
