What version of windows did you buy? Was it retail or OEM?

If retail, you can reactivate it without any issues.

If OEM, chances are you will probably be reactivated if you tell them it was was an accident and its still the same PC, but its a bit of a grey area.

I am constantly reactivating windows from changing motherboards,

last year I changed my motherboard 4 or 5 times and each time I had to reactivate my oem version of xp over the phone.

They are very friendly on the other end, and normally they do not ask why I need to reactivate, and the one time they did I told them it was just because I had a power surge and it broke my pc (which was the truth).

But they will not reactivate it if you have it on more than one pc.

You should be able to reactivate it without any problem. The only original components in my PC are the PSU, Floppy drive, CD-ROM and case and I've never had a problem re-activating it. I did have to phone up when I swapped the motherboard but it was painless.
It's my problem, it's my problem

Well guys and gals I'm feeling rather pleased with myself, took delivery of my new motherboard and processer this morning from https://www.ebuyer.com did rather well in the sale, as also got my son a light scrib dvd-rw and myself a new all-in-one lexmark printer x3350, so started taking the tower to bits at 8pm this evening, have rebuilt the whole machine which is my baby, she's my aviator my very own little enzo anyway formatted and got everything back up and running all software installed just getting my up-dates from old bill, so that should have saved me a hell of alot rather than going to the repair ripoff shop.
how many others on here do it themselves I wonder. anyway just wanted to let you all know I'M BACK and yes I did have to ring MS to activate windows xp which is a bummer, but we can't have everything. bye for now I'm off soon for some well earned rest, T
