Parts for new Saab 95

Hi all

Looking for some advice please.

Earlier this year I purchased a new Saab 95 from my local Saab dealer on Personal Contract Hire. Love the car and very happy with it, but ... a few weeks ago someone ran into the back of me (not my fault I might add). I now find that due to the financial troubles that Saab are in, parts to repair it are not available, and I am told that this will be the case until Saab settle up with their parts manufacturers.

Obviously not happy having to drive around in my new car with a damaged rear end. Also very worried what the future may hold if parts are not available to service or repair the car as I have 42 months to run on the contract.

Has anyone else been in a similar situation and do I have any redress with the Saab dealer, the contract hire company or Saab themselves. Hoping for some advice if anyone can help please.

  • Have you tried scrolling the net for parts, alot of saabs parts would be GM stuff so there would be plenty around obviously with body it would be more niche but even then there should be bodyshops that can do the moulding to manufacturer spec.
  • I'd try for second hand parts if no new genuine ones will be available in the near future.

Try putting a request out on places like www.breakeryard.com or www.247spares.com

As the op does not own the car any repair on a car of that age will need to be done with new oem parts, the contract will probably insist on it. I am sure that if you were to visit a few bodyshops someone would be able to come up with genuine parts but not through the official channels.
  • Thanks all for the replies. As molerat says, I need to use new Saab parts and as its the latest 95 model there are none in the UK or worldwide.

The advice I am really after is where should I start to terminate the PCH agreement. Hopefully someone out there can advise please.
  • The finance company should be your first point of contact as they own the car if it's on lease. Ordinarily, there are severe penalties for exiting a lease early, but there may be scope for some kind of agreement to be reached with your lease company under the circumstances. A quick Google search throws up threads like this one at CAG.

Think I would be pushing for it to be written off an all out of pocket expenses covered.

If this lot don't have the parts http://www.neobrothers.co.uk/index.php
then ask on the blog/forum which I know is read by Saab staff http://www.saabsunited.com/

and if all else fails ask Steve Wade the guy running Saabs own blog, they are very switched on from a social media perspective and you will get help from someone in the community http://inside.saab.com/

I can let you have Steves email if you want to PM me, he's based in Trollhatten and will help out a fellow Saab owner.

Finally, there is a huge amount of cash waiting for Saab from a Chinese consortium when the current restructure is complete so despite naysayers words to the contrary, when the dust settles part supply will resume.

The 9-5 is a great car, I raced an Aero around the Arctic Circle at -35 on spiked tyres back in Feb it was incredible. The new 9-3 has petrol front wheel drive and twin electric motors fitted to the rear wheels for 4wd and should be a stunning drive.

Fix it then Hirsch it, miles more smiles from Switzerland http://www.hirsch-performance.ch/

However if there are no parts available to repair the vehicle you have two options.

Not repair it or repair it using 2nd hand parts.

You have zero chance of the leasing firm just ripping up the contract, only way that you may be able to get out of it would be if you claimed on the insurance and they wrote the car off due to lack of repair parts.
