Cheap Hotels in Venice area for a family?

We are looking for a good cheap hotel in Venice or one of the beach resorts nearby within easy driving distance of Venice Airport.

Looking to go in August School Holiday.

I'd recommend doing a search on venere.com - really helpful website with lots of good maps/reviews, and reasonable prices too (which you also don't have to pay in advance)
Plus for 4% off, use code: BK5HX8W

I think it's a good idea to check out this website even if you find hotels cheaper elsewhere, as the descriptions and maps are generally better than other sites in my opinion.

    Hope that helps

Venice in peak season is not cheap, even for 1 star hotels!

What would you consider cheap? You would probably be better off looking for something on the Lido (beach), which is a shortish boat ride from Venice itself.

Alternatively, if you are there for a week, have a look at renting an apartment in Venice, or a house on one of the outlying islands - I think the islands are likely to be cheaper, as you have travel time to Venice itself.

If you've never been to Venice before and can afford it, I would definitely stay in Venice, as it is much more pleasant once the daytrippers depart!

I've stayed at the Antico Doge, which is a nice 3 star hotel not far from the Rhialto, but I don't think are geared up towards family, although they do offer extra beds in the room for 30 euros.

Have a look at the Foscari Palace, it is in Canneregio which is accross the Grand Canal from St Marks Square area and therefore cheaper than right in the centre - but it is still not cheap. Have a look at the reviews on Trip Advisor, it is currently 5th out of 366 hotels in Venice.
