Confused.com owned by admiral, diamond & elephant!

I went on confused.com and the top 3 quotes were admiral, diamond and elephant. I went with admiral who 14 days later said a discrepancy had occurred and I owed an additional £114.48. This now meant that the quote was not competitive and I could have got my insurance for that price anywhere. I have now found out that indeed admiral, diamond and elephant are all the same company and own confused.com. Surely this is a conflict of interest. The public use these types of search engines believing they are impartial. I think it is disgusting and want to know if others are being drawn in with cheap rates only to discover they are not what is quoted on confused?

What was the "discrepancy"?
Admiral are very hot on clients' manipulation of information on aggregators, especially things like removing claims and convictions after the first quote is obtained.0 -
Yes but they can do it a lot of these comparison sites aren't impartial and are either connected to that site or some may favour certain companies as they may pay a better referral
I tend to play them at there own game get a quote from several comparison sites then go via cashback site so I keep the cashback and they dont.0 -
they all own something somewhere....does esure not own go compare??Promo codes are never always cheaper..... isnt that right EuropCar?0

Sadly if you think the sites are impartial you need to move into the real world.
These site are there to make money, If they save you money then its a bonus.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -
Most of the aggregators have at least major shareholders in the insurance industry if not being fully owned outright by them.
Insurance is very much an old boys network and would be exceptionally difficult to break into without having significant connections into the industry.0 -
I wonder how many claim management companies are owned by insurers?0
-
Claims management companies do not require the cooperation of insurance companies and insurance companies fought them for a long time0

In the past, when they hadn't worked out how to stop them taking the lucrative part of the business away. Now you'd be hard pushed to find an insurer who isn't hand in glove with one, and doesn't farm out their own claim management.
So again, I wonder who owns who nowadays?0
