House Websites

Hello,

I'm about to lose my first time buying virginity, and I 'd prefer to do my initial research online and not bother with estate agents until the crunch time.

I scanned the past threads for a list of good house buying web search engines, but didnt find anything. If a post (apologies) please point me to it. If not lets start one.

The websites I've found have a good volume of upto date houses on are...

http://www.rightmove.co.uk/
http://www.fish4homes.co.uk

Any other reccommendations?

If you are in the right area,

    https://www.teamprop.co.uk

    also

    https://www.primelocation.com

https://www.nethouseprices.com will tell you what houses sold for in the streets you are looking at, the data is usually delayed by a few months so dont expect a sale last week to be on there yet, this is a very useful tool when haggling a price and to see whether asking prices are realistic, beware however you need to know the properties for comparison.

http://www.voa.gov.uk/council_tax/index.htm and click on the "council tax list" button in the middle of the screen to find the council tax band for the property you are looking for, this is important because while the EA will tell you what the coucil tax band is now - there may be a revaluation pending - the council can only change the band when the house is sold or there is a general revaluation, if the house has had any improvements made to it there is a good chance it will go up a band when sold, eg new garage, extension, loft conversion, conservatory.

Incidentally I used to use a sold house prices site that was very much like ononemap but with little flags where there were houses sold and it was much easier wandering round an area looking at sold prices than nethouseprices, but cannot remember what the website was, can anyone help?
  • https://www.vebra.com povides the online facilities for many Estate Agents and the search from their site will bring in all the properties their agents have.

  • i used rightmove to find my current house, i found a lot of the houses listed were actually under offer/off market, which was frustrating as they hadnt updated the website. i complained to one of the estate agents on there and she told me that the lists are updated on wednesdays, that was in may 2006, may have changed... hope it helps x

Like you, we've found that by the time properties get onto Rightmove they are often under offer!I know you said you don't want to bother with EAs but I've been told by a work colleague who bought a house recently that she found the best way to get the most up to date information is to register online with individual estate agents so that they automatically send you emails of properties that meet your criteria.
    Good luck
