What is an '00' number?

Being sick to death of sales calls such as the 'captains calling' I now rarely pick it up if I don't recognise the number. Of late, I'm getting calls which with 1471 give me a '00' with nothing else.
What is an '00' number?
What is an '00' number?
As surely as night follows day capitalism will come crumbling down. On a mission to secure a just and ethical society.

00 is a spoofed CLI engineered to get past anonymous call reject programming (00 is a CLI, albeit a meaningless and obviously spoofed one, so the call gets through even if you pay for anonymous call reject).Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.0

It can also be a legitimate call (I suspect, via C&W) when transiting an inbound international call with the CLI data removed either by accident or design. BT adds the 00 to show it is an international call, but with no other number, the 00 stands as the only number visible to the recipient.
I would think it unlikely that spoofers would choose 00 to inject, as they could use any random stream of numbers, but more likely a completely plausible (but equally fake) number and not alert the recipient to anything untoward.0 -
ah i was wondering about this too, even thought im tps registered i get a redic amount of nonsense calls.
does anybody know who 04044 is? i also get companys calling who with-hold their ID
I never ever answer these calls, if its a 0800 number or such i just don't answer, i always look it up on whocallsme and its always insurance blah blah.
if it's important they will leave a message.0
