I am looking to buy an xbox 360 game as a present.
It is for an adult male who enjoys games where you can wander around and choose what you wish to do as opposed to games where you have to follow a prescribed set of tasks.
He already games such as Red Dead Redemption, Grand Theft Auto and Fry Cry 2 all of which he has enjoyed.
Can anyone suggest a game which he might enjoy?
Thanks,
Spider.

In addition to Elightment's recommendations:
Mass Effect I/II
The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion
Fallout 3
The latest in the Elder Scrolls series, Skyrim, is coming out in November if you can hang on that long. It's definitely going to be a top title.0 -
The Mass Effect Games if it's for someone who would like a story-based game with a lot of conversation, or Just Cause 2 for an action game. I can't remember the last game I played that was so much pure fun and, on the PC at least, is pretty good looking.0

The upcoming Rage and Battlefield 3 if you're not in a rush.0

Elder Scrolls Oblivion has just been re-issued in a 5th anniversary edition as far as i know, other good ones to suggest might be Fable 2 & 3 (both should be relatively cheap) & Deus Ex 3 (Human Revolution) which are all to an extent open ended. Fallout 3 if you can get the Game of the Year edition was an excellent game, probably one of the most expansive games i've played but the storyline was very good and took a fair while to get through too & it has the addon packs for it too. Should be able to get the majority of those cheap (with the exception of Deus Ex which is just out, Asda currently doing it for £25), if you're willing to wait i would go with Battlefield 3 or Modern Warfare 3 - but expect those to be pricey on release. There's also a lot of good stuff being written about Dead Island, haven't played it myself though.Retired member - fed up with the general tone of the place.0

Mass effect 1 and 2 definitely. Seen ME1 for Under a fiver and Me2 for £9.99 in places and online. ME 2 probably the best game I've played in years, even the wife enjoys watching me play and suggesting conversations to turn my character in to a right b*tch.0

I echo most of the suggestions already made but my top 3 would be:
Mass Effect 2
Fallout New Vegas
Fable 3
Also has he tried Red Dead Redemption Undead Nightmare? It's an add-on to the original game but is played as a completely separate game & I really enjoyed it!

Thanks a lot everyone for all the great suggestions. Some of the games I have heard of, but others are new to me so I will have a good look at them. Cheers for all your help.

Star Ocean and the Knights of the Old Republic, both give you the choices to make, places to investigate. I think there is also a sequel to Knights of the Old Republic but would have to sift through to find it!0
