new "charity": Joy to the World Foundation

I am wondering why anyone would start a new charity when its goals overlap so much with existing charities. I'm afraid I'm suspicious immediately.

Joy to the World Foundation (1139832), collecting outside my local Sainsburys today for "starving children in East Africa".

There are hundreds of charities all collecting for the same or similar things. At the end of the day, if you don't feel comfortable, don't give any money.

  • This is worse than the others! Just one trustee, only registered in January so no track record at all. No website, although there is one for a US org with the same name.

They were advertising for fundraisers for the Stratford Shopping Centre: where will the money to pay them come from? The public I guess!

Yes, people who know what to look for will know better than to give anything, but the whole point is that charities such as this prey on the unsuspecting general public.

  • I did google them but didn't notice the job ad. Interesting.

The collector outside Sainsburys didn't "communicate well" (as the ad specified). She was on her mobile!

Not only do these "charities" prey on the unsuspecting but the unsuspecting trust a large company like Sainsburys to only have reputable charities on the premises.
