Try https://www.hotelscomparison.com but from my experience, hotels in Rome are pricey!!If you found my comment helpful, please click the 'Thanks' button below :T0

We stayed here a couple of years ago — https://www.hotelnavona.com
It's nearly £100 a night but you can't get much cheaper in central Rome for a half-decent hotel (I'm sure people will prove me wrong though!). If you're happy taking the metro in and out of the centre you can get cheaper but this place is walking distance from most of the attractions.0 -
Guardian travel section from Saturday has a double page spread on readers guide to Italy and someone has recommended
Via Lero 40, metro Magliana

It looks great from the website - but can't see any prices - you would need to use the contact section
Check out the Guardian 'been there' section online - seems to be loads of info:

We stayed at this youth hostel/hotel a couple of years ago. Was clean, safe, etc. We stayed in a private room. Not sure quite how chap and cheerful you wanna go but worth a look! On the site it does say it is 2 * hotel which is ok.

I'd recommend doing a search on venere.com - really helpful website with lots of good maps/reviews, and reasonable prices too (which you also don't have to pay in advance)
Plus for 4% off, use code: BK5HX8W
I think it's a good idea to check out this website even if you find hotels cheaper elsewhere, as the descriptions and maps are generally better than other sites in my opinion.
Hope that helps0
