Currency exchange by card is nothing like withdrawing sterling from your local bank or using a card in uk to pay for goods. Its far more complicated.

The charge arises because Visa's interchange banking process charges your bank a handling fee for foreign currency purchases in the UK.

    What currency exchange!!??

First Choice gave me foreign currency which had to be paid for in Sterling.

If I pay by Visa Debit I am charged. If I use my Visa Debit Card to access cash from a hole in the wall, I don't get charged.

Both options would allow me to pay for the currency!!!

Are you suggesting that the type of service I am consuming changes depending upon how I choose to pay!!?

I sincerely apologise for asking such a difficult question. ;)

Perhaps it is a scam after all....masquerading as a term and/or condition of service! Or perhaps not....

I do acknowledge, however, that the banks are financial magicians of the highest order. Since 2009 and beyond, they've been responsible for one of the biggest and best disappearing acts of all time! Billions and billions of [insert whatever currency means something to you] has vanished without trace!!! Now that's what I call magic!
