Phone calls from you network for a upgrade...

Options
Never ever give out your details to anyone calling up asking you to upgrade and saying that they are from your network. Always hang up and call the network customer services instead.

This happens quite a lot and unfortunately some people do fall for it, don't ever give out personal information over the phone. Best call I've had was one two days ago.

"I'm calling from your network regarding your phone. Can you confirm which network you are with. Are you with vodafone, orange, 3g, o2...."

another popular scam is saying there was some problems with your insurance direct debit - so they take your bank details and charge you a years worth of insurance with another company that has nothing to do with the one you signed up to.

    Hi

I work for Vodafone. Unfortunatley I can't comment on other comments, but if Vodafone do call you, they will confirm who they are within the few seconds of the call, eg - My names Faza calling from Vodafone, they will then ask you to either confirm two digits of your pin/ password, or if one is not set up, the 1st line of your address. date of birth etc.

If you arer in doubt, ask the caller for a contact telephone number for you to call them back. Although it is very unlikely you will speak to the same person, at least you will know it was who they said it was.

Finally, you can just do what Jarlawuk advised, and politley tell them if they will leave notes on your account, you will call Customer Services (99% of the time, a company will leave notes as a policy)
  • I always say I'd be happy to consider their offer if they put it in writing to me as they 'have my address on their file' (not)...

For some reason they never seem to write...;)

It's also funny how I seem to get calls from double glazing companies referring to our 'earlier telephone discussion' during which I 'asked them to call back in 6 months'.... not sure why I would do this as I'm quite happy with the double glazing I had installed 2 years ago. Although I do look out of the windows quite a lot, I don't think it's worn out just yet.

I have only ever upgraded my mobile by contacting Orange direct - probably getting a better deal.
