Idea to fund my son(s) through university - is it any good?

Nice to know some people understood the point i was making,
I have always been annoyed you arn't considered finacially independant from your parents until 25 (i think according to slc). I hate that the means tested are based on parents income as i moved out at 16 so seems stupid and wrong for them to assume my mum will fund me after i move out! It is something i have always found annoying, i have friends with rich parents who dont qualify for much loans but again, many of them have had summer jobs etc and saved in preparation etc
many unis offer scholarships, i managed to get one and most dont ask for A's etc. There are lots of grants available if you apply for them, the money is out there but it requires effort.
As for the living out the public pockets via my loan etc well ok in that view point things like the nhs etc and students not paying council tax...im not going to bother.
The "student" lifestyle is what you make it, i go out perhaps once a month and use my money to buy nice quality food and hobbies...i watch so many freshers blow half or even all their first installment in freshers week..run to mum and get bailed out..what is that teaching them?
Anyway, i wont comment again as im a little taken back at the attacks. I hope the OP has some other viewpoints to consider
Need a new start..wheres good to live in the UK?!0 -

If you've lived away from home for 3 years + then you will be classed as independant no matter your age, assuming you can prove you've been supporting yourself.0 -

Hi, I think it's lovely that you want to help your son through university. If you can encourage him to save towards it he will understand the meaning of money more. Perhaps he can work part time and put half his money towards it. If he can budget when he gets there he will be able to make informed decisions about what he spends his money on.
If you do decide to go btl, you could go through an agent who will check references for you to help prevent you getting a tenant who doesn't pay their rent. It will cost you a bit but they will deal with any problems that arise.0
