Well further Franke developments. The screw for the overflow is the wrong one. It fits another Franke sink. They conveniently document the fact. So it appears the problems both relate to the incorrect parts shipped with the sink.
Of course with any project one cannot wait for Franke to pull their fingers out so the builder has had to mount it by alternative method and go and buy the necessary stainless steel screw.
I know Meepster would argue that a good fitter would know it was rubbish and expect to fix it up but I personally think that if you send out a mounting and plumbing kit for a not cheap product it should allow you to mount and plumb it.

And just heard from our nationwide kitchen supplier that they used to offer Franke but due to screw ups similar to that I have witnessed they no longer do so.
