why target pro drivers, such as cabbies and delivery men, what about those driving to work. dont forget if a pro driver gets banned for DD then he looses the lot, a regular driver may loose his licence but keep his job.Div 1 Play Off Winners 2007

Did you ever consider the possibility that he is actually trying to reduce the number of deaths & injuries on our roads? You do realise that not everything is part of a giant conspiracy?
If these changes save the life of even one person, then I'd say they're worth it.
Um... Evidence? I wouldn't give any politician points for good intentions (have to assume there are none, or that they are incidental to policy).
A better approach to road safety than arbitrary alchohol limits might be the enforcement of regular re-testing. If we all had to re-pass a driving test every 3 years (to pull a figure out of thin air), I bet the roads would be a lot safer... And emptier.0 -

Evidence of what?
(a) that Alex Attwood is trying to save lives, rather than just political point scoring? I don't have any. I wouldn't believe much of what our politicians say, but in this instance I do believe reducing the level is a good idea.
(b)that reducing the legal limit will save lives? How about this document that talks about the correlation between blood alcohol and impairment in humans?A better approach to road safety than arbitrary alchohol limits might be the enforcement of regular re-testing. I actually agree that regular re-testing is a very good idea - not just for certain groups (e.g. the over 70s), but for everyone once they pass their test (I'd have said every 5 years, but would be okay with 3). But I don't believe doing this on its own is enough; likewise I don't believe reducing the alcohol level on its own is enough - there are a number of different strategies that need to be used, to tackle road deaths.0 -
I Don't drink and drive (ever) but zero limit?
What if I use alcohol based products or had a drink yesterday?
A sensible limit yes, Zero - NO.0 -

i have seen so many taxi driver's in belfast completely ignore red light's and make u turns where ever they like. randomly stopping driver's is bound to make people drive more safely.0 -
All drink driving rules should be revoked.0

Any particular reason why you think this? Should all other rules be revoked as well? I'd love to drive my car at 155mph up the M20 -
I am totally opposed to driving with any alcohol whatsoever but it is just the attitude of Mr Attwood who blames alcohol for everything, I feel yes reduce the level but I doubt if it would make much difference, there is the hardcore who have been doing it for years and will not stop.( Businness lunch, afternoon meetings and stopping at their club for drinks after work) personally I cannot afford to do I make do with a couple of cans from the Supermarket once the car is in the garage, and yes Mr Attwood wanted me to pay more for this harmless pleasure. In my opinion the main cause of accidents is SPEED and IGNORANCE and these should be addressed first and foremost.0

A couple of cans of whiskey?! Ouch!0 -
As usual this will be a cloudy issue.People WILL go over the limit as they always have done at one stage or another.Whether or not they get randomly stopped and caught at it is another story. The law needs to be changed to "No drink and drive".That way everybody will know what will happen if they do and will be clear about it. Its like the no smoking in certain places....People eventually latched on to the idea.IMO its about boundaries. One can easily go over the limit when drinking without realising it.If there is a zero limit then they cant go over it can they. When are politicians going to wake up to this.0
