Identity Verification

Hi all,
Apologies if this is the wrong section, it seems to cross multiple subject areas.
I often have problems signing up to various services due to a failure to confirm my identity, I subsequently have to send off proof of my identity -- passport / driving licence / utility bill.
Having to do this often puts me off and I typically don't bother sending the documents.
A couple of examples, I know friends who have been accepted without having to send off any documents:
I am wondering if anyone can shed any light on this? Why can some people be verified without the need of documentation and some not?
Many Thanks,
Andy

Are you on the electoral register?0

I can't directly answer your question, only provide an example of my experience.
I use selftrade. They did not ask any id when opening the account, but almost 1 year later came back and asked for immediate proof of indentity or they would suspend my account.
I supplied the documentation they required & no problems since.0 -

Ah, could this be the issue?
I think I'm still registered at my parents address, not the address I have everything else registered in (my flat).0 -
Yup, that'll do it. Get on the register at your own address and you should find it easier.0
