    Good thinking checking both.
Make sure you both pay everything on time from now on and the old problem will become less of an issue over time.

Do you both have some sort of credit that you pay off monthly? If not, it is worth considering.
If you do then your credit report will show this being paid on time every month which will help.

yes we both have credit which we pay on time, i recontacted santander re the loan they refused me 4 months ago, they dont know why i was refused, they told me to contact the underwriters either by fax or letter attaching both my credit reports, so i may do this to see what they say.

Get your credit report from all 3 agencies - they may all hold different information.
As to defamation... *sigh* - NO-ONE are legally obliged to give you credit or a loan... it is up a lender or service provider to decide whether you fit THEIR criteria. For some reason Vodafone and Santander decided right now you do not. Depending on what is on your wifes file it may be that it's this CCJ - however... have you checked it's actually been marked as settled on her file?
It's also a shame you didn't come here when they chased her 5yrs and 11 months in... more than likely they were way out but being as not only did she get a CCJ - you have paid it, then unenforcability does not come into it any more...

As for her ex - it might be worth you and the missus looking at if you can make a small claims court claim against him depending on the amount... all will depend on what the divorce stated etc but for a fairly small fee you could in theory get a claim on him and if he fails to pay then you could go for a CCJ and charging order on his property if he owns one... just a thought obviously...

Nevermind, my advice came 2 years too late unfortunately.

You're stuck for 4 years with crappy credit. See one of my credit rebuilding guides in previous posts for details of what to do, but be aware you won't have access to mainstream credit for 4 years.
Debt free, moved, got new stuff for the new flat - got everything I wanted and need - now just saving.
