Woolwich going back to Barclays???

According to our local branch all Woolwich branches will be closing and them just going back to Barclays instead of having both. Does anyone know what this will mean for woolwich customers?? I applied for a current account when I was 18 with Barclays after having a barclayplus account for years and was refused even a basic current account, but when I went to woolwich they gave me a full current account and debit card so needless to say I don't have much faith with Barclays!

There will be no Woolwich branches. Some will close. Others will be converted to Barclays branches.

"Woolwich" will be retained by Barclays as a sub-brand, for mortgages.

  • If you have a Woolwich account you can be sure that you will receive copious documentation about the process. I've had four copies sent to me so far, each set has about half a dozen booklets. If you're a tree, watch out, Barclays are about to turn you into bumf...

We have not had anything from them yet, don't like Barclays so we may have to change our account. We have been with The Woolwichs for about 20 yrs, shame they are closing

Have they transferred your account over yet? I have the openplan and the current which run alongside each other. the current I use for direct debits etc, and the openplan is mine for everything else. Do you know what the equivalent barclays account is?? I'm not looking forward to the change!!

Barclays have owned the Woolwich for over 5 years I think?

Wouldn't worry about much changing - just plenty of scope for !!!! ups during the changeover!

Barclays have been running their own version of open plan for years, so don't expect them to close that.

I think it going to run a bit like Lloyds TSB bying out Cheltenham and Gloucester. You can still get a C&G mortgage in a Lloyds Branch, they just don't have their own branches now.

    They bought them in 2000.

They have both a big C&G and a big Lloyds Tsb branch where I live. Are all the C&G branches closing or had the supposed to have closed?
