Posting to UK from abroad

Options
Hi all,
I could do with a little help please :o
I want to list some clothes that no longer fit me but I'm having an issue with postage costs, I now live in France so obviously my postage costs will be a little higher...thats fine because I'll take this into account by putting my starting price lower, better to sell them for something instead of have them sitting in my wardrobe.
However, when I try to list things I can only put in a maximum of £4.00 for postage....for my bundle items this won't cover my postage costs and I don't know what to do.
I guess I could raise my starting price to take into account the extra I will pay for postage, I noticed some people's listing just says "Freight" and they put the price for postage on the actual description but I can't find the freight option anywhere.
Any advice?

You are going to run into terrible difficulties trying to sell from France on ebay UK and get round the capped postage. Whilst it is obvious you have a real reason for doing this it iwll make you look dodgy.

All you can do is stick with your capped postage and put the extra postage costs on the item start price. Remember as well to mention, more than once that you are overseas and that the items will be slower arriving than from a UK seller- otherwise your stars will suffer.

  • It is a bit of a problem trying to sell from here with postage charges, I've seen clothes selling very cheap and the only reason I'm bothering is because they are designer brands that are still worth quite a bit, the normal high street brands aren't worth me listing so will probably end up in the local charity shop.
I do make it very clear on my listing that I'm posting from France and my delivery time is up to 2 weeks.
I guess I'll have to just put a bit more on the starting price to cover the extra postage and see what happens.
Thank you for your help :)

If these are real designer labels (and I wouldn't know one if it came up and shook my hands) then you may also be limited to the number you can list each month. people report about 3 a month to be the limit for private accounts.

What would happen if the OP put it on ebay.fr but writing the title and description in English. This would allow the postage to UK to be listed at the actual cost. Would this listing show up on ebay.co.uk searches?

Why don't you put them on eBay France? I'm sure there must be a market local to you for them and they would be visible to UK buyers who search worldwide.

  • From experience Ebay.fr is a waste of time, the French don't use it much, better results from http://www.leboncoin.fr/annonces/offres/ile_de_france/occasions/
Alternatively parcel them up and get a courier to deliver the lot to someone in UK, £50 per cu. m. door to door, before auction finishes. Then they address and post to winners, Complicated but can be worth it.

Sounds like rather an expensive option.
