Security certificate errors

Options
Hi Can anyone tell me how i can sort out this message of a security certificate error that i appear to have . IE keeps blocking the websites i go on from displaying the contents. Eg i ve been trying to install McAfee that i have free with bt broadband and its even stopping that consequently i have no virus protection on at the moment. It says this certificate is invalid or out of date yet it says 2012 on it:mad: I d like to get rid of it altogether Thank you

Clear IE's cache and then close and restart IE - If not, do try a reboot.

If you do reboot, ensure the time/date is still correct.

Oh its so frustrating ive been at it most of the afternoon till now. I ll try your suggestions tomorrow now. What does a reboot entail ? I thought it meant switching the pc off and on again. Thank you and i hope i can get it sorted tomorrow but i have a limited knowledge of pc s being a late starter lol.
  • It sounds like you CMOS/BIOS battery is flat / dead , if you tell us what the laptop is someone will explain how to replace. This is usually a little round button type , but some need cablles attached to them, Hammyman/Mista C know lots more than me.

Hi ive come on tonight to thank you. The clock was the first thing that needed changing it was set at 2004 and the wrong time. After when it still didn t work i realised i needed to click apply as well as ok lol. That was then sorted. Then i cleared the cache and had a read of the website you put up and rebooted it. Seems to be working fine now. So after trying allsorts and pulling my hair out for hours and hours yesterday it took a few minutes doing what you said and you were spot on, so thank you again. :T

Gald it worked. As DCM siad back in post #8, if you continue to have problems with the time/date settings then it may be your CMOS battery does need replacing.
