new adsl router needed.. any deals around?

my 3 year old netgear dg834g router seems to be quickly on its way out so im in desperate need of a replacement asap. anyone got any tips on a good replacement at a bargain price?

ive been thinking of going with the obvious and getting another netgear dg834g (snazzier v3 though) and the best price i can find seems to be amazon at just under £59 (with a usb adapter thing which i can ebay coz i dont need).... anyone seen it for a better price? am i missing out on some discount codes to get the price down somewhere else?

or should i be looking at other routers?

in case it makes a difference, i need it to do a wired connection to my apple mac and a wireless connection to my gf's pc laptop... suggestions welcomed!

thanks all

    thanks all

i always tend to have at least one computer wired to the router, just incase i have any problems with the wireless network

but its up to you if you want 1 wired, and the other wireless or both wireless (if your mac has in built in wifi!)

Makro have the DG835PN rangemax with the Rangemax WPN111 adapter for £69 + VAT... The new drivers and Firmware upgrade makes them both WPA2 compliant as well.

im gonna stick with what i said, my mac wired and the laptop wireless... there's no reason to have my mac wireless coz it sits right next to the router and phone socket so might as well be directly connected!

but that's more expensive than the netgear... is it much better?

anyone know where i can get the netgear for cheaper?

too long a story to explain.. it just wont connect to the internet anymore.. ive tried everything (including asking for fixing it help at every techie forum i can find and emailing the netgear tech folks) and still have no idea what's wrong.. the only explanation seeems to be its knackered..

my last test (to make sure its not a problem with my adsl line) is to see if i can get a connection at somebody else's house.. if it does then it must be a isp/bt problem, if not then the router is done for..

its been driving me crazy for a couple of weeks.. i had no idea how much i need broadband until i had to live with dial-up!

have you tried a hard reset, by holding the button in in the back for 30 secs (this will wipe all your settings, including password, so you will need to reinput them)

    does it work wired?

Do you get a sync in the router config?

is vpi/vci set to 0/38 and vc based?

If you goto http://192.168.0.1 what does this section say?

    ADSL Firmware Version 4.01.02.00
    Modem Status Connected
    DownStream Connection Speed xxxx kbps
    UpStream Connection Speed xxx kbps
    VPI 0
    VCI 38

    ok -

yes, ive tried a hard reset. lots.

it works wired in that my computer recogmises its there. it works fine wired and wireless but it cant get an internet connection, the 'i' button just flashes orange but doesnt go solid green.

im not sure what you mean by "sync in router config" but im assuming no.

vpi/vci already set as suggested. vc based too.

If I go to http://192.168.0.1 it says:

    ADSL Firmware Version 4.01.02.00
    Modem Status Connecting
    DownStream Connection Speed 0 kbps
    UpStream Connection Speed 0 kbps
    VPI 0
    VCI 38

like i said ive i think ive tried everything apart from plugging it into somebody elses phone line to see if it connects there...
