Am hoping I can get some help with a very frustrating problem which has arisen in the last week or so. My computer doesn't seem to be retaining sign-in passwords for various sites, predominantly Ebay & Facebook (but others as well) such that I have to sign in over and over again in the same browsing session, even when I use the "keep me logged in" checkbox. Other sites are not retaining passwords between sessions, when they normally would, using the "remember me" option.
I can't identify anything that I have done differently or any settings I have changed. I run Kaspersky as an anti virus programme. I am fairly non-technical. I am the only person that uses my computer. After looking on the internet for solutions, I have tried deleting browsing history/cookies and adding Facebook & Ebay to my trusted sites but it has made no difference.
I sell a fair bit on Ebay and this is making the process almost impossible - I am having to sign in two or three times in the middle of listings. I would really appreciate any help anyone can offer!

I can't really offer any help, but my computer was doing this exact same thing recently on the same sites. My computer recently went in for a check over in which they gave it an overhaul as it was running slow (as well as a few other problems). Anyway when it came back everything stays logged in now. Might be worth getting someone to have a look at it see if they can find anything. If practice makes perfect, and nobody is perfect....................................
Why practice!:T0 -
try another browser to test and see if that fixes it0
-
check the time and date on your PC0

Thanks for the suggestions.
Time & date are fine.
Custardy - could you expand please? Do you mean using Firefox - not sure how to do that - and what would I be testing?
In for a bargain - how much did that cost???
Have done an internet search on this and loads & loads of people are asking exactly the same question. particularly on ebay forums. No-one is coming up with a sensible answer (they are suggesting someone else has been using the computer or blaming the individual website, particularly ebay or gmail or Facebook) - I know it is this computer as in desperation last night I finished my ebay session on my son's computer. No issues at all!
I really would like to be able to resolve this myself!0 -
eBay only allows you to stay signed in for 24 hours anyway even if you do tick the remember me option.
The "remember me" type settings are stored in cookies on your computer. You need to check your browser's, security and maintenance software's settings to ensure that they allow cookies and aren't set to periodically delete them.0 -
My issue isn't on initial sign in -I accept that I have to do that, it's that I have to resign every few minutes whilst using the websites, mostly when I cahnge from one task to another eg: during listing items on ebay or going from one page to another on Facebook. I have picked up that it may be something to do with cookies and have looked at the security settings under internet settings in IE 8 but am not really any the wiser - can you tell me where exactly I should check and what I'm looking for? I'm afraid I don't know what maintenance software is either. What is puzzling me is that I haven't changed anything but this problem has suddenly arisen.0

Maintenance software is things like CCleaner which is designed to speed up your system by clearing out temp file, removing errors in the windows registry etc One of the options on these types of application are to run every X hours/ days/ weeks and delete all cookies etc
I cannot help with IE8 as I stopped using windows based systems a long time before IE8 came out.0 -
Well, after a bit of a struggle I seem to have resolved this by working through the 12 point guide for sorting out a slow computer contained in the sticky at the top of this section of the forum. No idea which bit of it solved the problem, tho it did include resetting IE to its default settings so perhaps that's what did it. For now at least the frustration is over - have tested it by doing an ebay listing without interruption :j
And I have a faster computer! May go and do it to various others in the house including my son's netbook which apparently "doesn't work anymore"
Thanks for your encouragement and I heartily recommend the guide - if I can do it, anyone can!
