The best or maybe easiest way is to use the UKPower website to do the calculations for you. http://www.ukpower.co.uk/tools/smart_meter_calculator/

:p Regular savers earn 6% interest (HSBC, First Direct, M&S) :p Loans cost 2.9% per year (Nationwide) = FREE money. :p

Because energy use, particularly the heating fuel, is highly seasonal the only relevant figure is your annual consumption. If you have been on supply long enough it is stated on your bill.

You can (simply) convert from m3 of gas to kWhr by multiplying by 11.2, (electric meters read kWhr directly).

To get a handle on your *usage* just read the meters. At least every month and always on reciept of a bill with estimated readings.

If you want to check the *cost* of your usage use a Consumer Focus accredited comparison website, quoting your annual consumption.
  • Hi, I'm with Eon and I simply phoned them and asked our annual amounts for gas and electricity and they told me over the phone.

  • Thanks for the replies we only switched to normal meters from prepayment meter in June, so don't have a yearly usage just yet and we set our DD for £45 per month for gas and just wanted to try and work out how much we actually use in ££s. Also this is our first home so not sure how to work it out. I got the usage wrong its was 40 m3 of gas we used in 2 months not 103!!

I guess my best bet is to phone EDF and ask them how much credit we are in towards dec/colder months. I have been writing down the reading every month on the calendar and then submitting them every 2 months online.
