Am I entitled to JSA?

Hi,
I was just wondering if anyone out there could help with my question. I finished university 2 weeks ago and i am waiting to start a new job. I have trained as a midwife and so i have to wait for my professional registration number to be allocated to me before i can start work in the hospital. I have been told that this can take anywhere between 3 weeks and 10 weeks and there is nothing i can do to quicken the process. I am going to try and find a casual job this week but i was wondering if i am eligible for any form of income support/benefits in the meantime (or for if i am unable to find work). After 3 years of studying in London i am really struggling for money and the though of having no income for the next few weeks is quite daunting. I would be really grateful if anyone out there can shed some light on this for me.

if you are actively seeking work during this time, then there is no reason why you shouldnt claim JSA.
but as it would be income based, you would only be eligable if you do not live with a partner that is earning in excess of £105ish per week.0 -
....same goes for housing and council tax benefitI'll get you, my pretty, and your little dog too!0

You have the offer of a job to start on a future date.
If it was a job, they'd be paying you!0 -
If you're in rented property you need to claim Housing Benefit. This only starts the Monday following any claim so even if you made it tomorrow any awad would be from next week, thereby leaving you out of pocket. A lot of local authorities allow you to claim online now so if you did it today any award should start tomorrow. I'd give it a go anyway. Best of luck with your new job.I'll get you, my pretty, and your little dog too!0
