Want to do voluntary unpaid work whilst on JSA, but have a question

so just recently I was made redundant (depressing) but I dont want to be stuck in the house I just want to get out and do something during the week, If I do voluntary unpaid work, would the job centre pay for travel expenses or is it the charity/company that does that? I'm not exactly sure and just need some help.
Many Thanks good people

  • I would approach the charity first. I don't think you can expect DWP to pay. Many charities do, some cannot afford to do so.

I used to volunteer at D I A L. They would have paid travel expenses if it wasnt for the fact that it was walking distance away! They also provided my lunch on the days i was volunteering.
