Hello I ve acquired a dell laptop. I ve got a netgear thing that i put in presumably its not a wireless laptop. I cant access the internet as it keeps saying windows is not managing my network. Its running windows professional xp and when i start it up i dont know the password to type in as its the previous owners. How do i get round this please. I d also like it to run off my bthomehub somehow. Is this possible. Thank you

If you don't know the password how do you log in to the laptop?
Although the 'windows isn't managing the network' message is usually when you have a wireless card in there with it's own wireless manager software. Instead of using that you're trying to use the default Windows option; there is a setting within your wireless properties to change it back.
Yes you can use it with your BT Home hub.0 -

Try ophcrack to find out the windows password. Download and burn to disc, then set pc to boot from cd/dvd first. You can do this in the bios, press f2 while booting, I think. Boot the pc with the ophcrack disc in the drive. The program will find the password, just note it down then reboot and log in. You will then be able to change it or remove it.0

that's not in IE. Go to Start > Control Panel > Network Connections, right-click on the wireles connection and select Properties.......Gettin' There, Wherever There is......
I have a dodgy "i" key, so ignore spelling errors due to "i" issues, ...I blame Apple0 -
Have you connected it to your homehub with an ethernet cable?0

What it means is that the netgear wifi client is sorting out the connections instead of the Windows one. You can go into the Intel Wifi client and untick the box which says "Manage connections" or something similar. OTTOMH the icon is in the systray . Once you've done that you can use the Windows one.
I am actually surprised the Netgear Wifi Client hasn't popped up to say its detected a wireless network and asked if you wanted to connect.0 -
^^^ had one this week where the netgear software was for some reason blocking web traffic. Connecting to router fine, but no net access. A reinstall of driver/sw and letting WZC manage the connection sorted it out. It is an unfortunately common issue with third-party wifi management software......Gettin' There, Wherever There is......
