can storage heaters be charged during the day?

We are about to have solar panels. Our central heating is gas but if we were able to buy electricity storage heaters cheaply could they be charged up during daylight then used to supplement our gas central heating at night?

In theory yes, it would work, but the practicality of it is not so good. Typical solar PV is just not able to generate electricity in large enough or cheap enough quantities to make it worth using for heating. Also, using it to replace gas use means you'd be realising little value from it (gas is cheap, much cheaper than electricity). A much more reasonable option is to export electricity to the grid and sell it to your electricity company.

You'd be better off switching on your immersion heater when the sun is shining.
That gum you like is coming back in style.
