horrible fungus around eucalyptus tree

I have a eucalyptus tree in a pot. When we planted it last year we used a mixture of top soil, (bought, that we already had in )and peat free compost. It seems to be doing very well and it is a really large pot. However in the last few days there has been a horrible brown fungus growing around the root. Does anybody know what this is ?. We are going to repot it with just compost and drainage stuff as it gets very dry and waterlogged.

Do a google search for images of Honey Fungus, if it is the same as your fungi then I am afraid you will need to dig it up and burn it and the soil, as it will destroy all woody shrubs it comes in contact with. You used to be able to use Armilatox but this is no longer legal in the EU although the product is still allowed for sale as an outdoor cleaner, their website has information on how to cure your problem with the product if you lived outside the EU.....

Of course it is illegal to use it for this purpose in the EU due to the £3 million cost to get EU approval.......
