Can I list collection only for items?

Is it possible to list collection only for items?

Does anyone do this and find they still get buyers?

I would list buy it now auctions.

I know I have to list paypal as a payment option but obviously I would like cash on collection, anyway to word this without breaking the rules?

Is there a way to search for items that are available for collection to see if there are many sellers/buyers in my area?

Thanks

  • You can ask for cash on collection but unfortunatly that wont stop some people paying by paypal as ebay state you have to accept it, you could always list a high postage price and say either cash on collection or it can be posted if payment is by paypal but it depends if you want to chance someone bidding and wanting it posted.

There is a collection only option where you set the postage.
I always put in my collection items, payment on collection preferred. So far I've never had any problems.
You can search on ebay for nearest first, you just put in your postcode & it comes up with the approx distance from you in 5 mile chunks.
  • If I want something to be collection only, I just put 'cash on collection prefered' in the text of the item too. Never been a problem so far, and we've had loads of people who've collected stuff over the years - saves on postage for the awkward items too. (Though I have had a few who've been a bit thick and assume that I'm gonna be ok sitting in waiting for a courier, which I'm not, so I do now add that this is for personal collection NOT courier collection too!)
  • The wonderful soolin started a thread called collection recently, it's on page 2 at the moment and it's full of good stuff.

Putting a high postage on might put buyers off before they even read the listing.

And lots of buyers don't read the listing.

How about saying something simple like
'Payment by Cash on Collection, please contact me for details'.

(If you still have time to contact a bidder who's not contacted you before your auction ends, message them to ask if they're aware that you'd prefer Cash On Collection so they can examine and be happy with the item before payment etc )

(Avoid 'Cash on Collection only' of course):)

Just remember though that however you word it if someone buys your item and pays paypal you are stuck. Obviously you cannot be forced to allow the item to be collected, but all that happens is that you refund, lose all your fees , get a neg low stars and a non performing seller complaint.

Collection does seem to be very popular at the moment and as MissGivings says I started my own thread recently (see below) mentioning how many people have suddenly started wanting to collect.
