I decided that I would do what my Granny used to do and save for Christmas with a Post Office savings book. I had forgotten how satisfying it is to have an actual book in my hand with the balance in front of me! It is also helps as you cannot withdraw without prior arrangement which is good for impulsive shoppers like me. I know its a bit labour intensive, ie having to go to the post office to put the money in, and the interest rate is rubbish, but it helps me achieve my aim of not going into debt for Christmas for the first time in years.
I also sat down with my family and we agreed a limit on presents to £10, which was a huge relief for everyone.
    Hope this helps
