Link PC to TV

Options
Good morning, wonder if anybody can help me.

The problem, husband recently became disabled and need to sort out his room which is fairly small, want to combine monitor for PC and TV. He has an HP Pavilion Slimline PC (with VGA port) and a Sony Bravia TV. I also want to link a Sky box.

I am confused about what cables I need and where to put them, any ideas, he will be so happy when it is sorted.

Thanks in advance.

Does the Tv have a VGA port at the back?
All you need then is standard monitor cable - that is all I needed to do when connecting a laptop to my Sony Bravia.
Turn tv on first and then laptop (from memory) and you should get pc input.
Sky box - HDMI cable or SCART cable normally (box to tv) or RGB component cable if you have slots at the back of the tv.

Thanks still slightly confused, the PC has a VGA port plus USBs, the Sony Bravia TV has a port with 15 pin D sub and the old Sky box has a TV Scart plus RS-232.

I have a VGA computer cable and the old Sky Scart cable, do I need to get new cables.

If the TV has the port you have mentioned, then it should be simple as connecting the VGA cable form the PC to the TV - just like connecting a PC to a monitor.

I don't know anything about the SCART RS-232 - if its like this http://www.preisroboter.de/ergebnis5472444.html - then its some sort of adapater for VGA to SCART - don't think that will work for a PC (I don't know, never tried).

For the Sky Box - if your TV is HD Ready, then use a HDMI cable otherwise use a SCART to SCART cable.
  • Remember that a VGA cable won't carry audio to the T.V, you'll have to use normal pc speakers or link it up to a sound system.
If at first you don't succeed, maybe bomb disposal isn't the best career choice.

Most TVs with VGA also have a PC-Audio in socket, so you just need to link a 3.5mm stereo cable from the headphone/speaker output of the PC to the audio input of the TV. That way the sound with play through the TV
