Ebay rant, so annoyed I could scream:(

Sold a heavy item that needs to be posted via courier. In the description it politely says that courier requires telephone number and to let me know this when paying. Item finishes, I send an invoice mentioning the same.
Payment arrives, no telephone number. Send a message asking for one, no reply.
I can't arrange the courier(UPS) without a phone number!! And the ones you can book without are rubbish! Is it so much to ask..
Same with international bloody postage. When I don't want to ship abroad I state that in the description. Why do I get messages asking how much it would cost to post to Neverevenbloodyheardofthisplace when it clearly says UK only shipping. Or even better- buyer requirements activity log makes an interesting reading. People actually trying to bid without asking altogether. Yes I sure would love to post that picture worth £200 to Malaysia! And it'll be free too. I diots.
Rant over. Sorry I had to get it out.

As for shipping abroad, if you don't want to then edit the list of countries you don't post to. The only reason you have people from abroad bidding on your items is because you've not set the listing options correctly.0 -
I use myhermes and have never had a problem with them and never had to give a phone number.0

Request buyer's contact details via Ebay. If they haven't given a valid phone # or it doesn't connect, contact eBay Trust & Safety you may have grounds for cancelling the sale as buyer isn't following the User Agreement.0

Thanks. I trust UPS more than myhermes/yodel/citylink for expensive items and find them excellent every time, but I haven't found a way to book them without a phone number.
I thought that too, but it's definately listed on ebay uk only and it states "post to:united kingdom", so they must actually go looking on uk ebay.As for shipping abroad, if you don't want to then edit the list of countries you don't post to. Yeah they are cheap,i run a small business from home so like my customers to be happy with not paying OTT on delivery costs,in the 2 years ive been using them ive only ever once had a problem when they didnt collect on the day they said,i was refunded the costs and item collected the next daySellers love Hermes because it is dirt cheap.
Buyers hate Hermes because their delivery drivers are awful.0 -

You need to set your seller preferences correctly, not just select UK post. The two are ot the same.
You can also use your preferences to force a buyer to include a telephone number when they purchase.
You then wouldn't need to rant

I found this seller requirement the other day and wondered why anyone would need it, so thank you OP you have just answered a puzzling question for me.theonlywayisup wrote: »You can also use your preferences to force a buyer to include a telephone number when they purchase.

This post answers your problem. I've done it many times, putting my own phone number in twice as contacts for couriers.0
