thanks but i've confused myself with my rubbish way of asking the question, who should supply it owner or lodger?:rotfl:
I *think* from your reply you are saying the house owner, if so, would you also say the same for kitchen roll? dish cloths?
Then how about cling film / tin foil /salt and pepper? vinager? cooking oil? tomato ketchup?
All the little cupboard things that 'don't cost much'0 -
Entirely up the landlord and lodger to agree at the start.
LL should always make clear (preferably in writing) what the house rules are. Washing up liquid? tea/coffee/salt/spices? Do you share cooking utensils? Who cleans what when? Access to/restriction to what parts of house? Guests OK? Overnight? Weekends? Every night?
The more these aspects of living together are agreed up front, the less chance of a falling out.
edit: more here
LODGERS
A lodger (broadly) lives in the same property with their landlord, and shares facilities. Unlike tenants (above) lodgers have few rights. There is advice for landlords considering taking in lodgers here:

Well it would depend how much rent you were charging to the said lodger. If I was renting a room out to a loger, I would charge a decent sum of rent, say £50-60 per week. But provide the cuboard things.
£50-60 is quite alot round here, you can get a 2 bedroom house for 350-450 pounds. I add this information because I got told I was contradicting myself on a previous thread when I stated I earned decent money, I earn £1,000 pcm roughly.0 -
Are you just going through the motions ...0

no not me, but my friends lodger obviously has been:p
she was here tonight moaning that her lodger took 4 toilet rolls out of her stash in her airing cupboard and put them in 'his' toilet (she uses her en suite so they dont really share exactly although her friends use 'his' / the main bathroom when they visit)
the lodger buys and cooks all his own meals but also keeps using her cling film and tin foil :rotfl:
This is the first time she's had a lodger and its working really well, until the toilet roll incident.0 -
My lodger and I sort things like this practically - if either of us opens the last roll - thats the one that needs to spend a penny on new...
unfortunately its not foolproof:o0 -

In that case, I think each buying their own loo rolls would be better to prevent disagreement. As for the tin foil, since they both presumably use it equally. Can't they just pay 50/50 for it?0
