Do I need to HPI check a pre-reg (3 week old) car?

I put down a deposit on a 10 day old pre-reg car, by the time I pick it up it will be 3 weeks old. Would I need to do an HPI check?

I'm thinking not but thought it might be best to check with more knowledgable car people!

Thanks

  • Where is it from, a main dealer? Wouldn't have thought so. Dealers pre-reg cars so they can hit targets.

Someone in my family bought a 6 month old pre-reg a few years ago from a dealer. Only had delivery mileage on the clock.
  • Thanks, I thought not but I've never bought a pre-reg car before so thought it was worth asking, it's from a registered Hyundai dealer and was registered 9th September.

Assuming it's delivery mileage, then no. The dealer should be able to provide you with paperwork stating it's never been subject to a total loss claim etc as a matter of course - any used car I have purchased has stated this on the order form

If anything you'll end up worrying yourself about outstanding finance if the dealer has used some kind of stock financing to "purchase" it.
