Due to the overwhelming response MalwareBytes has agreed to extend this deal for another day

I'm a proponent of the full version, probably the best value for money security software you can buy. IMO the IP blocker is the best feature of it, and I find it complements domain level blocking solutions such as Norton DNS. The latest version of Malwarebytes is quite trim and shouldn't particularly cause any performance issues; I use it on my netbook without a problem.

Personally I would uninstall Zone Alarm and turn off Windows Defender as both will be slowing things down to an extent, and don't necessarily add a lot.

If you are using a modem router and have reasonable wireless security, and are smart in dealing with attachments/links sent in emails, then your main threats will be through the browser. If this is the case, then using Sandboxie is a good step as it adds a kind of 'buffer' to prevent infection spreading to the rest of the system.

Thanks everyone for the advice. I have purchased Malwarebytes as 40% off was a very good offer. The discount code shown for the purchase was TYL-6NB-QG.

Russ JK – I am using what I assume is a modem router, it was sent to me by by broadband provider when I first went on line in March 2010. Is my assumption correct or is a modem router something else. Also what do you mean by “reasonable wireless security” as I am not aware of using any. I also assume from your comment on zone alarm and defender that my windows firewall is all I need

Closed - Thanks for your guide for speeding up. I am learning about this but what should I use for a firewall - the built in XP one? Is that enough and what settings should I have. Sorry for the question but I am not very technical.
