i dont get IS so wil have to see if the DLA affects my council tax benefit, it depends if its counted as income.. i did see something about the DLA meaning they dont use the disregard but it was a bit confusing

i have to go see the council re my other post where they are insisting i get 86.75 when i get 70.05... have now got to the bottom of that as if i had initally been getting SSP i would of gone up to 86.75 by now but as i am self employed i hadnt.. a nice lady is sending me a letter to give to the council

as she said sometimes they think they know more then us and they dont!!! AMEN to that lol

road tax exemption for your vehicle. Ring up the number shown on your DLA award letter to request application form (one should have been enclosed with your award notification, just a one page tear off piece). You then send it bacl to DWP who in turn send you back a certificate which you take along to your local DVLA along with your MOT, Insurance etc (just as if you were renewing tax disc). The DVLA will backdate a refund of any road tax you have paid from the date which DLA was awarded.

Has this to do with the amount you are rewarded? I have been on DLA for 2 years, and didn't know anything about road tax exemption.

Just makes you wonder what else you don't know about........

Also, the tax is not backdated at all. QUOTE]

It is not the rule of thumb granted but I managed it by being a real pest. They initially said no and gave me the same response as yourself but I wrote a formal letter and (almost a month later) got a very basic one paragraph letter back stating that they had reviewed had given circumstances etc etc.

I think anything that you feel is fair, is worth kicking up a fuss about. Trouble is, most of us aren't aware that it's even possible as we tend to naturally accept at face value what we are told by someone behind a counter. I'm not saying it will always work, but in our case it did so I say have a go for the price of a stamp.

Right, am going to send the DVLA a letter - today!! They owe me for Oct - Jan inclusive!

You would be on the Higher Rate anyway - there should have been a leaflet/application in with the information that you were sent when the DLA was originally awarded. It has been going for years, it isn't just a recent thing.

Mind you, I only found the application form about two months after I got the DLA!

Ring them up and ask - you are entitled to it.

You will most definitely still get your council tax rebate since you are entitled to that with your DLA alone.

    This is incorrect.

Which rate have you been awarded? A VED exemption certificate is issued if you are on HRM component.
