  • would your parents donate again? did they actually donate last time and/or get their money back?

No money was lost last time, we didn't get as far as booking anything fortunately. However, all the squabbles were stressful enough then!

Did you actually have any arguments over things last time? Are they aware of your feelings about it then? I'd use that as your starting point to the discussions...say that you felt you didn't enjoy it with all the tension and that to avoid the same thing happening this time you and your OH just want to do it your way. You could also say that as OH's family can't contribute so much you don't think it's fair and so you and OH will sort things, and this is where you can decide if you'll do it on your budget. If your parents say they want to pay you can make it clear that you'll happily and gratefully accept any gifts but that the decisions on how things are done, who should be invited etc should be for you and OH to take.
Or do what my friend did and threaten to go off abroad on your own if there's going to be interference!

I wouldn't even worry or think about it till your OH has proposed.
Tank fly boss walk jam nitty gritty...
  • I second shellsuit, and the others who say it's better to not take money from the family. All money does is cause arguments :)
