Ipod battery life low - should I return?

I bought two ipod 4gb nanos (from amazon) one for my husband and myself at the end of August last year, the battery life has never been great but I recently timed how long they took to discharge whilst playing music and one took nine hours and the other twelve. We haven't used them that much since we've had them. I would have thought that this time would be even shorter had the buttons been being pressed as in normal use.
When I bought them I thought that the battery life was supposed to be 15 hours. I'm really dissappointed with this.
Could anyone advise as to what apple are likely to do if I send one or them both back, can't even find an address to send them back to either!
Any help appreciated

Hmm, I'm not sure. I bought a 2gb nano in September and I can only get around 8ish hours battery life out of it. I think you will be pushed to get a long battery life out of them I think this was one of the drawbacks of the nano's. i think the new generation ones (the ones that came out before xmas) were supposed to have improved battery life.I :heart2: saving money0

The quoted hours are specific to certain conditions.
I think the screen light is turned off, nothing selected (it's just on continuous), playing something less processor intensive (mp3 128kbps).
Also the battery will lose life as it goes along anyway, but then again you haven't used it much. To be honest Apple have newer been great with regards to iPod battery life.
You could try getting it returned, but it's a difficult thing to gauge, and 12 hours isn't too bad (although I wouldn't be happy with 9).
Of all of the ones I've had (3 iPods, 1 Shuffle) only the Shuffle has come close to what it's supposed to. Hence, I may not be getting another iPod (not the only reason)."Boonowa tweepi, ha, ha."0 -
You should definitely try to return it. They might not let you, but some people have had luck with this.
The battery life will only get worse, and many people have found that even new Ipods don't get the advertised battery life no matter what they do. In my opinion, that's a valid reason to return a product.0 -
Batteries are classed as a consumable item in most products and are not covered by a lot of warranties.
Rrechargable batteries have a finite number of charge cycles, and their capacity will appear to decrease over time - whether they have been charged or not. Also the quoted figures from any manufacturer for any product will be under strict, optimal conditions for the device.
You could give it a go returning it but I don't think 12 hours is out of the ordinary, so I wouldn't be too optimistic. This is not a signature...0 -
