What would YOU do?

We are currently living in a local authority house. We sold ours about nine years ago when my wife had a house allocated via the council when she became a sheltered housing warden. Unfortunately she has become disabled and retired from work, hence the house which was automatically made available.

Our son and his family is planning to move from our town to the south coast to take up a teaching job and has suggested we make the move as well.

We quite like the idea. Should we embark on a request to be moved/relocated via the council, or privately seek a council property via a council house swap website, or consider a purchase?.

I will be 67 this year, my wife 53 and is unable to walk without a walking aid.

Would anyone be able to swap into your place, or does someone have to be employed there to use it?
 Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.

I understand that moving to be with your family has its attractions but will you be happy to be leaving all your friends and memories behind. Such a move is more attractive when you are younger (I moved South at 16, leaving family and friends behind).

I wouldn't rush into a decision. Your son and his family can make the move, find out more about the local area and get a better understanding of suitable areas for you to live. You could visit for a month or so, Find out if you like the area and perhaps make the move with a greater knowledge.

Being a few hundred miles away, I see my folks more often than if I lived in the same town.

    :)
