dishwasher making pots dirtier! Why?

Thanks for the comments, I do put salt in but have never known why. I will re-fill it as soon as I get into town to buy some. I do live in a hard water area so this could well be a problem.
Since cleaning the arms this afternoon there was a huge difference in the wash, not perfect, but much, much better - thanks to those who suggested it.
At the minute we have Fairy as they were on offer when I last stocked up, I often have tesco's own or the co-ops own so will go back to them as soon as this bag runs out. I put the tablet into the cutlery rack as suggested, thanks for that it worked.
Lovely to be getting my dishwasher up and running as I have been using it then hand washing all the stuff as it came out - completly pointless:rotfl:.

I get this if I so much as think about putting a bowl in that's had weetabix in it.0

Clean out the filters, fill the salt up, put in two tabs and a squirt of bleach, run at hottest cycleBlackpool_Saver is female, and does not live in Blackpool0

And if you still get problems, check the drainage hose as that could be silted up by years of nastiness not being quite pumped away due to a little bit of plastic or some hair getting trapped somewhere. It includes the pipe that leads from the sink trap (check that as well) onwards, too.I could dream to wide extremes, I could do or die: I could yawn and be withdrawn and watch the world go by.Yup you are officially Rock n Roll0

When we had that the drain was blocked, we put some drain cleaner down it and that sorted it out.0

Thanks you all :T,
I have filled up the salt, cleaned the arms and run it through on a hot wash with a tablet (and washing up in!) It came out much MUCH better. I am so chuffed.
This afternoon I will run it with the vinegar in and will check that the drain isn't blocked. I don't think I can use drain-unblocker-stuff as we have a septic tank and they don't usually like that, but will certainly have a poke around.

Ours does this to drink glasses if we forget to top the salt up quickly enough - we need to fill it before the light comes on telling us so. We're in a hardwater area too.
Also we find that we have to handwash any effects glasses to clear the buildup first - chucking them back in for another cycle just doesn't work. Once they're washed and the salt is topped up, we're normally fine (until next time we forget the salt!)0
