2 - 2.5k for a 2001 - 2003 car, You need to shop around more, I would want something around 2006 for that.

Maybe 2007 with a few more miles. But i buy on condition more than the mileage, But it must have receipts
for work/parts not just a stamp in a book.

I guess the type of car your looking for will be ex-hire/ mobility or driving school. So an inspection is a must especially
    bodywork.

Nissan Micra ticks your boxes I think - sensible servicing costs, reliable, cheap to insure/run and still look fresh, especially compared to comparably priced super minis from other manufacturers...HTH
  • I agree with other posters. I would look privately. I'm about to sell an 8 year old clio (78k miles) and looking for £1250 for it.

If you can find a decent one with full service history and not thrashed to bits, I'd go for it.

Have you considering maybe moving up to a medium/large car?

Small cars fetch massive premiums on both the purchase cost AND the insurance.

  • I've not considered a medium car as I assumed a small engine would mean a smaller price and insurance.

I'm Bournemouth based, if I up my distance search on autotrader I see some newer cars come up for my price range but I am limited to what I can go see as I have only my legs and public transport for viewing.

I can get a better deal going private by as I know very little about cars I'm worried about being taken for a ride, at least with trade you get a small warranty.
